ok from what i see there quite a few perch cockpit mods, all with different colours, textures etc around now and are all great but my question is this how do u take a perch mod and play with it ya self i.e play with the 3d model, texture etc
or dose everyone who makes a perch mod have to model the "perch" frame them selfs from nothing.. the design is great but i would like to add some things to the frame and use the screens and hud i made my self..
is it even possible to get the raw perch 3d model file so i can render, texture, and add some stuff my self.. ?
I'm wondering the same thing. The cockpit mod I want to make is a pretty modest adjustment: I want to add transparent floor sections (like in a helicopter) to the standard cockpit model and possibly replace the metallic texture with a smoother ceramic look.
So what 3D modeling program do you modders use? I've been trying to find a way to edit the existing ccpit.x file, but the file format is apparently quite old and most programs (I've only tried Blender) won't import it.
For both of you goes the same answer: the ccpit.x file is what you need. From what I've read, that's the one that holds the meshes (which is the actual model, the 'shape' if you will), textures and some other stuff. If you can find out how to decompress that file, you'll probably see how to work from there. I don't know if it's an old file type or not, but regardless it should be perfectly de-compressible as long as you can find the right program or plugin for it.
Most professional modelers use either 3dsMax, Lightwave or Cinema 4D, but there are other programs as well. But start with googling about that x file format, and how to decompress it. I'm sure it will come up with a few options.
Good luck.

Are the ccpit.x and .mqo files that come in the customization kit complete, or are they stripped down "grayscale" versions lacking texture or other data, like the 2D HUD assets? I think I may have screwed up my original ccpit files, because I assumed that the custom kit had a proper replacement in case things went wrong. It's not a big deal in either case, I've meticulously backed up my mods if I need to reinstall.
its somewhere on page 2 of the EM mod open cocckpit perch thread and contains the whole thing, unwrapped and everything. textures you can take from the actual mod.
it will get you further than trying to work on the custom cockpit or an .x-file, which you'd have to convert to another format for modeling anyway.
there is as well one ugly uv template link somewhere.
what you need to figure out is, how to convert your model into 'x' format after the changes. usually via export or extra scripts or plugins, depending on the plattform you are using.
beside reading through the postst here, you'll have to read and understand the custom kit thingy. there are 2 slightly different ways of building cockpits.
ok this is cool. i have opeded it and well going by what u see in game in 3d model software there alot more to the cockpit that meets the eye... i have some drawings of what i want to do ill just have to try and ad them via my software..
thanks again ijon what ever i make its cause of you
