Engines
Doesn’t it seem odd that the only engine types we have now are based on current modern day technology? An engine that runs on a regular form of fuel.
A proposed though by myself would be to add nuclear powered engines, also a technology of today, but more often used in space now then any form of fuel. For those who have watched shows and movies like firefly (woot woot), youl remember the nuclear powered system they had.
In short i would like to propose a new type of engine one which is fission/fusion. The uranium/plutonium that fires the engine would be very expensive and would slowly wear away, the main differences between this engine and the fuel engine would be a much greater cost of nuclear, and less assembly for equal range (think no fuel tanks). (if the weight of a fuel engine and tank that could get you distance x was 1, then the nuclear equivalent would be no less then .75)
Another possibility would be to remember the warp speed like bursts of energy their engine could unleash, perhaps the nuclear engine could have a ‘built in’ capability to warp like a jump drive, or just to set off a small explosion behind you sending you forward at +8000 - + 12,000.
Defences
Secondly on my mind is defences, all of you from the first time you attacked a large vessel remember being stumped when the vessel fried all your pretty missles with a laser, perhaps an aggressive anti missle defence could be mounted onto your ship.
This would either take the place of the shields (meaning you would have a very weak shield against cannons/lasers, but the anti missle system could dispatch with a missle between every 1 – 3 seconds. Or it would mount onto your laser weapon mount meaning you would lose a weapon slot.
Cargo bays
Just felt like making my last suggestion very very debatable.
A engine & cargo bay pack that limits your engine to one of the FIRST THREE engines, but gives you a cargo bay larger then we have now, your slow as all hell getout but you can carry 2x the load!
lastly X2
Cargo bays AND mining storage bays, they should be different, would you pile tons of raw material in the same type of space meant for crates, boxes and other important things? of couse the storage space would be different.
Mining bays should hold minerals alone (this opens up for the possibility of raw materials and refining them)
Cargo bays should work slightly different then the current ones, as of now when there is one twinky in a cargo bay, some mystical force prevents you from sticking a teddie bear in there with the twinky, WHY?! In all honesty cargo bays should have room for 25 units and if you wanted too you could put 25 different things in that bay.
So Discussion time, if you dont like an idea let me hear what could make it better, or if it belongs in the dog house for a millenia! (keep it civil!)

Because you can't sell twinkies and teddy bears. The companies with their raw ores in one type and as soon as you load any of the cargo bays with something, a unit is considered 1/25th of the cargo bay. So, 1 unit of Diamonds is far more diamonds than 1 unit of mechanic parts would be in mechanic parts.
I wouldn't like anti-matter with my medicines, in any case

well rami its not like everything is shipped by just throwing it into a cargo bay, everyting would be in crates, boxes or containers. now if a unit follows a common size, then you could interchange 25 of any type of unit into any cargo hold, AND they do follow a common size because you can only put 25 into a hold.
And if you think about it, the minerals would have to be refined, facilities for that probably wouldent exist on stations. (who knows perhaps we could buy our own platnum refineries)

You're protected against antimatter by a magnetic suspention system. It wouldn't be touching anything anyway.

ok ok so perhaps anti matter can get its own private storage, i meant things like medical, textiles, machinery, ETC many things could be put next to eachother in a cargo hold without all hell breaking loose.

I was just playing devil's advocate, Eclipse. I wouldn't want antimatter with my medicine either.
