Hi Marv, I noticed a difference in info shown. One shows +/- 27 units and the other shows +/- 203 units? Bug?

Not a bug. Just additional testing ... more trips across greater and lesser distances, heading to places on the galactic plane and other places above and below the galactic plane, on or near cardinal headings and some headings in between. Each combination gives me a different amount of "slop" and, so, the +/- indicates what I hope is the greatest amount of slop possible.

Super, thanks. I like the smaller size:)

Hi Marvin,

Is the Travel Buddy, Net framework 4.0 ?

Did you figure it out yourself, or did the all expense paid vacation to Tahiti bribe to your son work?

 He settled for a trip to Vegas. But he insisted I make the conversion from 4.5 to 4.0 myself ... which I then successfully tested on my WinXP desktop.

Hi Marvin,

I am having trouble getting The Travel Buddy to load.

I put the savedatasettings.txt in the main EM folder.

The .exe is in on my desk top.

When I click the .exe before starting EM, I get the error messsage that the .exe is not a valid win 32 application. There is an ok box to check. Checking that bounces me out of that little warning window, but the H2GE doesn't appear anywhere.

I haven't tried starting the H2GE after I start EM, because I can't figure out how to get EM to display in a window so I can still see the desk top and the .exe.

Any ideas?

Thanks

PS: I checked to make sure that I have Net Framework 4.0. ( I have all of them, 1, 2, 3, and 4)

Try doing the following.
  • 1. Pull the savedatasettings.txt file from the folder.

    2. Place it in your main game folder.

    3. Run the game.

    4. Exit the game.

    5. Check the main game folder for a file called savedata.txt.

    6. Open that file with Notepad.

    7. Let me know what you see.
If you don't get a savedata.txt file after running the game for a minute or two, then the problem probably isn't with the Travel Buddy. If you do have a rather big list of data in the savedata.txt file, then we can try some more troubleshooting.

Hi Marvin,

Yes, I have a savedata.txt file.

Attached is copy.

I am running XP/SP3.

I am not sure if when I click on the OK box, "this is not a valid win 32 app", I get bounced out of the app or whether the Travel Buddy gets launched somewhere because yes, I have checked the box. I am not seeing it, if it is launched.

Hmmnnnnn.......

Where did you find the savedata.txt file ... which directory? Was it in the directory (folder) specified in the ReadMe?

This is the default main game folder -> C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary

Both the savedata.txt and the savedatasettings.txt are in the main game folder. C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary.

The savedata.txt seems to be updating the status of the pilot I am playing.

Okay, then drag the unzipped TravelBuddy.exe file to your desktop. Then double-click on it. See what happens.

So clicking on it gives me the warning window notice that the .exe is not a valid win32 app. There is an OK box to check in that window. When that is checked, the warning window disappears and there is no Travel Buddy.

I do not see the travel buddy on the desk top then: nor in the game any where when I then launch the game.

The travel buddy widow should show on your desktop after you open it even if the Game is not running. The travel buddy is a stand alone program that works with the Sim.

Starbuck is also having some problems with mods. Not sure why ... most of them are tried-and -true. Are your other mods working okay?

Hey Marvin,

I just tried an experiment.

I downloaded the H2GE for 4.0 and 4.5.

When I clicked on the 4.0 .exe it loaded just fine. It works.

When I clicked on the 4.5 .exe, I got the same message as when I clicked on the Travel Buddy .exe. "This is not a valid win32 application."

So perhaps the Travel Buddy .exe is for Net Framework 4.5 and not 4.0???

Thanks,

Dorn

I'll download the version of the Buddy available at SeeJay's website and try in on my Win-XP computer. If I get the same message, I'll make a 4.0 copy and send it to SeeJay.

Well, I downloaded the file from SeeJay's website, unzipped it and launched the .exe from a folder not co-located with the game. Since I already had a savedata.txt file saved to the game folder, the Buddy program popped up ... and, when I clicked on the Engage button, I got the correct readout on the Buddy's display.

I compared the version which worked for you against the Buddy to see if I'd made any accidental changes beyond the intentional shortening of the box and an adjustment to the "slop" in fuel consumption. Nothing ... both programs were saved as .NET Framework 4.

The only thing I can think of, off hand, is if you haven't recently updated your version of .NET Framework 4.0 ... not that updating it will definitely help. But it can't hurt.

I spent 30 minutes looking for the latest 4.0 Net Framework and vowed to never rest until....well.....

I found something. Saved it. But did nothing else.

Then I told my computer that Marvin said Travel Buddy works.

Travel Buddy now works, in addition to H2GE 4.0

Is this weird or what?

Thanks Marvin for all of the help. I love the nav computer.
