Hi! I'm wondering what is the best joystick (cheap U.S. dollars) that I could get for my laptop. It needs to be compatible with Windows 7, Evochron and other similar games. If you know of anything and can give me suggestions and tips, I'd appreciate it.

I use the saitek x52 flight system personally. i find that it does have 1 fault though. short wires :/ from my experience it runs flawlessly on windows 7 and newer linux kernel versions. you wont really need the driver CD unless you want to get into some pretty advanced stuff as well. its a class compliant device, meaning you can just plug it in and go (you will want to calibrate first though).

keep in mind Cindy that if you get a saitek, they can be difficult to program. Luckily there are many here who can help you when it comes time to tackle the task.

Hi Cindy.

I use a Saitek X52 system and it works great.

If you get one and need help, just let me know.

Yep... X52 is a good choice. Programming the buttons is a personal thing but I'd be happy to send you my controller profile to get you started if you like.

Hi Cindy - I use a Saitek X45 with Windows 7 64 bit- there are enough buttons (8) and hats (4) to cover most things, plus a rocker for yawing plus a throttle. It also has three modes (chosen by a slide switch) so the buttons etc can be programmed to do three jobs so actually using the programmimg program(!) isn't necessary (for me) - I also use the Aux 1 slide for forward and reverse thrust when IDS is switched off.

In fact if I had many more buttons set up (I don't use Mode 2 or Mode 3) I wouldn't be able to remember which function was where! :P:P

IMHO the X45 is better than the X52... and I have both.
Good luck whatever you get. :D

Can't argue with the x52, especially if you want a HOTAS (Hand On Throttle And Stick) setup, but if you don't particularly want a separate throttle I highly recommend CH products. I have their Fighterstick and love it. Brilliant piece of kit, very durable and cheaper than the x52. Can't go wrong with Saitek though.

LOL, I can argue against the X52 nall day as long as the other choice is the X45!
On the other hand any Saitek "X" series controller is better than anything else!

No, they don't. But that doesn't mean it's not a better controller.
It's not my fault that "newer" is not always "better".
Just ck around on Ebay and see how much they are still pulling in.
I have been a gamer since "Pong" a game most of you never heard of.
I have, over the years, bought or borrowed just about every controller ever made for any game and I think the X45 is so superior that I bought 3 of them.
That should last whats left of my gaming carrer. ;)

Actually more than that. "Tripedal" would suggest three legs, I would have to have 6 arms to use 3 X45's at one time. I have no idea what you would call that!
I am just saying that I also have the X52 and have had the opportunity to compare them in game combat and my vote is for the X45.
I dislike the "twist" for yaw/roll and the X45 actually has a few more button/options.
In the past, there have been many loading/program issues with the X52, but Vice, in his infinite kindness has written an in-game program that all but eliminates any issues.
I have never had a programming or loading issue with the X45.
The "stick" part is much firmer and doesn't feel like it's broken as does the X52.
I could go on, but anyone can U2U me for a more objective comparison.
That being said, the X52 is a great stick and heads up over any others in it's class.

I am only suggesting that once you have them both to compare, you will likely do as Dingo did and give away the X52

This discussion has gone on forever. In any event one mans junk in another mans treasure.

I must confess I would like to give the X45 a go, but I would have some trouble getting it past the Financial Director. She would need a brilliant Buisnes Case otherwise it would simply be "You already got one like that, why do you want another?!"

Difficult to answer that without waffling!!
