Hello all, new player here, just picked up the game a couple of weeks ago. After playing with Maximilien's excellent cockpit and HUD, I was inspired. This is the result:
The HUD is Maximilien's with a few tweaks:
- Larger and redesigned radar screen.
- New gun sight
- tweaked status and contacts screen for personal taste/better fit
- redesigned reflection graphics for the new cockpit
I liked Maximilien's idea of putting a universe map in the cockpit, so I did my own as large and readable as I could get it and kind of designed around that.
The first post has been edited with a download link.
I also put a replacement warning sound that I did in the zip.
Feedback and suggestions for improvement welcome and appreciated, though barring a major bug, I'll probably be taking a break and actually playing the game instead of wading around in the nuts and bolts for awhile. This turned into sort of a career, for a few days anyway.
Somebody needs to do a Marvin-like tutorial for modding a cockpit. If for no other reason than letting Marvin (me) learn how to do it.
I started by loading up the default cockpit from the customization kit into Blender and then deleting every face except for a few that I kept to let me know the bounds that I had to work with. Blender won't export directx format by default but there is a free plugin you can download that will. I used photoshop and illustrator for the 2d stuff but gimp and inkscape would work as well. So you could do it completely free except for lots of time.
